Dear Brethren,

In the last days of the apostles, the Church was being engulfed by false teachings and a “spirit of deception” (I John 4:6). Today, that same spirit grips the whole world. Indeed, the prophesied “mystery of lawlessness” is now fully developed around the world as a religious and governmental system. In the book of Revelation, God calls this entire system “Babylon the Great.” Its source is Satan the devil, who is actively deceiving the whole world in nearly every area of life—every religion, every institution, and every government (Rev. 12:9). And that includes every aspect of modern culture.

Today, this “Babylon the Great” is more intensive, more invasive, and more oppressive than ever before—because of advanced technology and our modern media. It affects all nations. Just prior to Jesus’ return, this vast religious and governmental system will encompass the entire world. John describes it this way: “And after these things I saw an angel descending from heaven, having great authority; and the earth was illuminated with his glory. And he cried out mightily with a loud voice, saying, ‘Babylon the Great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a habitation of demons, and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hated bird; because ALL NATIONS have drunk of the wine of the fury of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the power of her luxury.’

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, ‘Come out of her, My people [both Israel and the Church], so that you do not take part in her sins, and that you do not receive of her plagues, for her sins have reached as far as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Render to her as she has rendered to you; and give to her double, even according to her works. In the cup that she mixed, give her back double. To the degree that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, give to her as much torment and sorrow. For she says in her heart, “I sit a queen enthroned, and am not a widow; and in no way shall I experience sorrow.” For this very reason, her plagues shall come in one day—death and sorrow and famine; and she shall be burned with fire; for the Lord God, Who executes judgment upon her, is powerful. Then the kings of the earth who have committed fornication with her and have lived luxuriously, will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning’ ” (Rev. 18:1-9).

As the apostle Paul says, Satan is indeed the “god” of this present age (II Cor. 4:4).

And just how bad are things getting? With the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Row v. Wade, it seems evil itself has been magnified: numerous pro-abortion groups are boldly rising up to protest this ruling in several sates; national organizations and major employers are looking to provide abortion on demand in every possible situation; state lawmakers are attempting to pass laws guaranteeing abortion to anyone wanting one; even President Joe Biden has signed executive orders in an effort to “protect the rights of women everywhere” who want an abortion.

As a prime example of how thoroughly Satan has corrupted this degenerate society, a new website purports to make abortion easy for women. The site—“Self Guided Abortion”—gives detailed directions on how to use certain legal drugs to induce an abortion. The site says, “Self Guided Abortion supports people before, during, and after abortion with pills.” It goes on, saying that “pregnancy happens”—as if it were beyond anyone’s control to restrain their illicit sexual desires—and that the site “supports you with accurate and detailed information on how to have an abortion at home with pills.” To top it off, it boldly proclaims that “abortion is sacred.”

Sacred? Really? What they mean by this is that abortion is “hallowed territory”—not to be trampled on or interfered with, even if it means taking an innocent life.

On YouTube, one woman has posted a video designed to actually celebrate having an abortion. How? By building an altar, of all things, dedicated to the fact that she had an abortion! The video shows women how to build the altar—which displays packages of abortion pills, photos of the aborted fetus, and a container to actually display discarded fetal body parts! With candles burning and incense in the air, the woman kneels before the altar to pay some kind of sick homage to her abortion!

All of this, of course, is designed to present abortion as normal and acceptable. Those who believe in and promote abortion are in a very real sense part of a cult—one that blatantly rejects God as Lawgiver and refuses to take responsibility for their own immorality. After all, abortion is ultimately the result of a licentious lifestyle. When traditional forms of birth control fail or are otherwise neglected, abortion becomes the “solution of last resort.” Women who use abortion as birth control—and that covers 99 percent of all cases—are only interested in maintaining and protecting their immoral way of life. They couldn’t care less about protecting the life of their unborn baby.

When men and women abandon God and deny any sense of right morality, Satan moves in and evil quickly saturates all levels of society! God warns: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

“Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink [and drugs], who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

“Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame burns up the chaff, their root shall be like rottenness, and their blossoms shall go up like dust because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the Word of the Holy One of Israel.

“Therefore, the anger of the Lord is kindled against His people, and He has stretched out His hand against them, and has stricken them. And the hills trembled, and their dead bodies were as filth in the midst of the streets. In all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand [of correction] is stretched out still” (Isa. 5:20-25).

Indeed, how thoroughly Satan has defiled people’s minds! So today, in our culture of self-idolatry, secular humanism, narcissism, entitlement, and being “woke,” abortion is being celebrated as something good and right.

A good example of this new “woke-ism” has recently come to light. It has already been well established that Disney, once upon a time a family-friendly organization, has taken the lead in all things “woke.” Not long ago, in fact, Disney announced that its age-old theme park greeting “ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” was being replaced by the gender-neutral “dreamers of all ages.” And they also recently opened gender-neutral bathrooms at their theme parks. Indeed, Disney has become anti-family, anti-God, and against all forms of traditional gender identity and sexual normality. Case in point: In the past, Disney employed makeup artists called “Fairy Godmothers in Training”—and their job was to give young girls make-overs, adorning each girl as a Disney princess. But “godmothers” means mothers—implying gender. So they renamed the makeup artists as simply gender-neutral “apprentices” working under the direction of a single Fairy Godmother. So no one gets to think of them as women at all! How does this affect all the young girls who are involved in this twisted slight-of-hand?

With all of this madness in mind, perhaps we should be reminded of just what a woman really is—according to God’s design.

What is the Definition of a Woman?

In the world today, it seems that no one can accurately define what a woman truly is. So, what follows is the definition of a woman. But because a woman is such an amazing creation of God, it cannot be given in a few sentences or a single paragraph. And all of these “woke” people who say they “cannot define a woman” have been so perverted in thought that they do not see the simple truth of God. So, what follows is the definition of a woman based on the truth of God and the truth of known biological laws that God created.

We know that God gave all men and women free moral agency—a mind to think and make choices. He also gave both men and women a wide range of talents and abilities covering a wide range of creativity and inventiveness. And the talents and abilities between men and women do intersect and overlap in some ways, but not all. There are certain things men alone can do in thought, occupation, and ability. And in a similar way, there are certain things that only a woman can do. Thus, this definition will not attempt to describe these differences of innate abilities. Rather, it will address the nature of what a woman truly is.

God created man after His own image—“man” meaning all human beings, male and female. To demonstrate the closeness of a woman to a man, He took a rib from Adam and formed the woman and brought her to him—on the 6th day of creation. Adam named her woman because she came from man. Later, when she gave birth to Cain and Abel, she was called Eve (Hebrew for life) because she was the mother of all human life.

Scientifically, we can look back and see what God did. He made the male the progenitor, and his sperm is the seed of new life. God created in the man the ability to produce two chromosomes, which are labeled as X and Y chromosomes. The woman, however, was created to produce ovum within her body—with only the X chromosome. The X chromosome is for female, the Y being for male. This is all scientific fact, and always will be.

God ordained that man and woman would become “one flesh.” Thus, the first wedding ceremony was performed by God in the Garden of Eden. God then declared that for all future generations a man should leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife—that they should be “one flesh” through the sexual union. God made the human sex drive powerful enough to guarantee that the next generation would be produced. God also made it clear that all deviant forms of sexual activity are contrary to His design, as noted in Leviticus 18 and 20, etc. Today, as in all past civilizations, living contrary to the laws of God concerning human sexuality will automatically bring curses—for perverse sexual activity will profoundly affect the mind and emotions, so that those involved will become unable to think correctly.

In human sexual union, the male injects millions of sperm cells into the woman—each one carrying X or Y chromosomes. When a sperm cell with the X chromosome unites with the ovum from the woman (with an X chromosome), this produces a female. When the ovum is penetrated by the Y chromosome, a male is produced. So all women have their origin through their father’s X chromosome. Likewise for men, except it is through the father’s Y chromosome. This is how it has been from creation. And it will never change.

So let’s get to the definition of a woman.

We find from Scripture that God uniquely made women to carry the newly impregnated life, to nourish it during its gestation period from conception to birth 9 months later. This takes place in the placenta, which only develops upon pregnancy. Oxygen and nutrients pass from the mother through the placenta to the developing infant—in a watery environment called amniotic fluid. All of this occurs automatically, according to God’s genetic design. You can read more about this in our book From a Speck of Dust to a Son of God—Why Were You Born?

The gender of the child is sealed at the instant of conception. There is only male and female; and after the infant is born, it remains male or female. So-called modern science cannot change these facts of human life. Attempts to do so only reflect a demented mind.

And God did not give this childbearing ability to men. So the latest fad, that men can give birth to children, is nothing but a satanic delusion (which men will learn when they foolishly try to make it happen).

Every child born is the “one flesh” of the father and mother—literally fulfilling the Word of God that the husband and wife shall “become one flesh.” With every child, half of the genes come from the father and half come from the mother. Thus, children are the “one flesh” of their father and mother—and together they are a family, as created by God.

The woman was specially created by God to be a “helper” for the man, her husband. He made her with different emotions than the man—more emotional, in fact. He made her to naturally desire to nurture and take care of others, primarily her own offspring.

God also designed the woman to be able to produce milk to feed the newborn. In most cases, the mother feeds the infant for many months, even up to three years. Only a woman can produce this milk, designed specially for her offspring. In nursing the baby, she is the one who is in the loving position of caring for, and talking to, and loving and caressing the new baby. These emotional qualities are uniquely built into women; men do not have them to the same degree.

God made the man to work, to provide for the family, and most of this work requires him to be outside the home. So the woman has been made to take care of the home and to take care of the children—to teach them, to nourish them. The Bible says that, compared to the man, she is the “weaker vessel.” Thus, men do all the heavy work: the hunting, the building, the mining, anything that requires considerable strength. Women can do some of these things, but they were not designed by God for such work.

So the woman is a special creation of God, literally the other half of the family—the father being the head, and the woman being the helper and the mother of the children. Women have special talents that most men do not have: they are able to create and fashion things useful for living, and to make attractive and comfortable living spaces. They are also good at creating a loving and peaceful environment for the husband and children. We see in Proverbs 31 that godly women can be homemakers who also work outside the home—even buying and selling land. Notice God’s compelling description of such a woman, from Proverbs 31:10-31:

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her value is far above rubies. The heart of her husband trusts safely in her, so that he shall have no lack of gain. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she brings her food from afar. She also rises while it is still night, and gives food to her household, and a portion to her young maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She binds her loins with strength and makes her arms strong. She sees that her merchandise is good; her lamp does not go out by night. She lays her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She stretches out her hand to the poor; yea, she reaches forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She makes herself coverings; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes fine linen and sells it, and delivers girdles to the merchants. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.’ Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Indeed, he who has found such a woman for his wife has found the favor of God (Prov. 18:22)—and will live joyfully with her all the days of his life (Eccl. 9:9).

Critical to all this is the woman’s role in teaching godly values to the children. Solomon admonishes young people to heed the guidance of their parents: “My son, keep your father’s commandments, and do not forsake the instruction of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck. When you go, they shall lead you; when you sleep, they shall keep you; and when you awake, they shall talk with you. For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life” (Prov. 6:20-23; also 5:1-2).

The woman is also co-heir with the husband to eternal life. As the children grow up and leave home to start their own families, she is able to dedicate more time to drawing closer to God and to understanding His Word. Yet she continues to help educate her grown children—and then her grandchildren. She also has the time to expand her talents and abilities.

This is how God has created women—with their unique abilities and emotions. And when life is lived as God has shown in His Word, He blesses the whole family—father, mother, and children. And when the children have grown up and are married and have their own children, the cycle repeats itself—with a new generation. So, without man and woman, we are only one generation from extinction.

The truth is, the world can’t get along without men, and it can’t get along without women. This is all by God’s design—for His great and awesome plan for humankind.

This is how we need to rightly define a woman—and her all-important role in God’s plan. We need to come out of “Babylon the Great”—this world’s satanic ways—and return to God! Jesus Christ is soon returning to this earth! The Kingdom of God is near!

Brethren, in our own lives, we need to draw close to God in daily heartfelt prayer and in the study of His Word—so that we can grow in grace and knowledge and always be overcoming. We thank God the Father daily for His goodness and mercy; we thank Jesus Christ daily for His strength and guidance as He lives in each one of us. We thank you for your continued love and faithfulness to God and to each other. We thank you for your prayers for us and all the brethren, and for your faithfulness in tithes and offerings. We pray that God will continue to bless you and keep watch over you. We continually pray for your health and your healing—and for God’s love and grace to be upon you in all circumstances.

With love in Christ Jesus,

Fred R. Coulter
