God gives us free moral agency, the choice is yours!

  • How many have been following along with the convention?
  • How many saw 'the Donald' on Thursday night? Too bad!
  • How many are going to watch Hillary this week? If you can stand it, you might find out what they want to do.

The world we live in today is quite a world. It tells us in Rev. 12 that Satan has deceived the whole world. In deceiving the world he does so not in a hostile way, that comes later. It is by incrementalism that he gets people deceived and he comes along very nicely and very friendly. In a world filled with all the evil that's going on, when you're watching television, nearly everyone is happy and smiling. But you know that's not the way the world is.

Satan comes along to give you a benefit. I don't know what he told Adam and Eve, but what is it that people like to hear? Some of it is true, some of it is not true. He likes to tell people—as a matter of fact those who worship Satan profess this—that he wants everyone to have freedom. That's what you hear. The truth is we need freedom from sin and freedom from Satan the devil! That only comes through God!

The ones who have the power of the sword today, that has been given to the civil government. God gave that (Gen. 9) when He told Moses, 'He who kills a man shall be killed himself by man.' That, of course, is through proper judgment in most cases, other cases it's not.

The power of the sword has been given to the state, whether to use it for good or for bad. God uses them (Rom. 13). They have the sword against the evildoer. We've seen what happens when they are killed by the rebellious.

God has given the death penalty part of His Law to all nations. When Israel was brought together as a nation, they had the Laws of God for worship, service, loving neighbor, all of that. You read Ex. 21-23 and you will find every single one of those statutes, judgments, and ordinances are based on loving your neighbor as yourself. You are told that if you see one of your adversaries, who has fallen down, and his donkey is on him, you are to go over and help him. But He says to the rebellious they are to be executed.
When you live in a lawless society, like this is becoming, things can get very, very desperate, which is why you need the protection of God and His angels at all times.

God also, in addition to judging people, judges the nations. You look at the election and you wonder what is going to happen. God raises up nations and He takes them down. God blesses them and God curses them. It works in individual lives as well.

We will look at some of the judges of Israel, because I know there are a lot of people who are so self-righteous that they say, 'Never Trump, never Trump.' Will you vote for Hillary? No!

There are certain things that need to be done that only the government can handle. So, if you vote—there are a lot of people who don't vote, there are some people who vote—I always vote for lower taxes. Some of these very self-righteous people actually are setting a standard that only Christ can fulfill. In order to see that fulfilled they better get right with Christ, because who is perfect? Even converted, who is perfect? None of us!

God told Jeremiah to go down to the potter's house and he's working on his potter's wheel. God said to go down and watch what the potter is doing.

Jeremiah 18:4: "And the vessel that he made of clay was ruined in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel…" Second resurrection; make a new one. I'm not saying that's the second resurrection, but it's the same principle. He's taking the same clay, going to make another vessel.

"…as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the Word of the LORD came to me, saying, 'O house of Israel…'" (vs 4-6). These are the people God had chosen. Most of us are the descendants of the ten tribes of Israel. All of us who do not come from that, we are altogether of the spiritual house of Israel, being the Church! As we find in the New Testament, in repentance and receiving of the Holy Spirit for those who truly repent according to God's way, God will impart the Holy Spirit upon baptism. God is no respecter of persons.

However, you must be on God's side! The world is not on God's side and yet they expect all the blessings that God says He would give, while they live in their sins. It doesn't work out that way.

Verse 6: "'O house of Israel, can I not do with you even as this potter?' says the LORD. 'Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hands, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.'"

Here's the thing that's important. Even in the world, if people choose to do what is right in the letter of the Law, there are certain blessings that come. For example: Honor God, honor your father and mother, pay your tithes to God and you'll live a long life (Prov. 3). Proverbs says if you don't follow God, you waste and ruin your life and you die young, whose choice was it? Your choice!

How many times have you started to do something and you realize it was wrong and you stopped? Many times! That's a choice. How many times have people done things and—this happens to everyone who becomes an addict—when they get enticed into it they say, 'I'll never be an addict,' and they become one. So, they make a choice.

What is free choice? Independent, free moral agency is IFMA, an acronym that fits that. God has given to every human being independent free moral agency. Even to rebel against Him, if you choose to do so. That shows how important that it is in our lives that we make the right choice.

He's telling us here that He can work with us, which He wants to, and if we receive the Holy Spirit of God we are growing in grace and knowledge and we are the begotten children of God the Father, growing in character toward the resurrection to become spirit beings. Think on that!

I think on that quite a bit. I often wonder what that's going to be like. It's kind of like you talk to your three-year-old child and they come up to you, 'Mommy, Daddy.' You start talking way above their head and say, 'When you grow up….' That takes 18-20 years. It's even being heard of that some people still act like children, which is most of us from time to time.

Do they have any inkling or idea of what it's going to be like to be an adult when they are three-years old? No! That's why God gives us time to grow, to change, to overcome spiritually, the same way. We're to be learning all the time. I'm still learning.

Just to give you an insight, it dawned on me just yesterday. The Old Testament, with the exception of the prophecies of Christ and certain other prophecies, has to do with physical land, physical people, tribes, nations, etc. The New Testament has to do with the spiritual sons and daughters of God.

This dawned on me in making the sermons for the Feast of Tabernacles. Just about everything concerning what's going to happen in the Millennium is found in the Old Testament. You look in the New Testament there is very little about the Millennium, except a couple of key verses.

One of them is right at the end, Rev. 20:4-6. We'll be in the first resurrection and we will be the priests of Christ; we will reign over the nations. So, it's entirely different.

The New Testament is designed to bring us, as human beings with the Holy Spirit added to us, so that we change, grow, overcome. We overcome sin. We develop the character of God in preparation for the first resurrection. Then we will help all of humanity, during the 1,000-year reign of Christ.

God says to even the physical nation of Israel that, 'I want to do some things with you, but you have to cooperate.' Cooperation is obedience!

I want you to understand this: Not one word of the Bible, which is the Truth of God, when the God of Truth will fail! There may be in some translations some mistranslations. There's a lot of misunderstanding and misinterpretation, because they didn't learn the lesson that Mike read that Peter learned (Sermon Love Your Neighbor by Michael Heiss), which was, 'Who am I to tell God what He's going to do?' That's the lesson that theologians have never learned.

  • God says don't add to, they do
  • God says don't take away from, they do

If anything is going to be changed concerning the Law, God makes it clear He changes it. Not men! So this is what He is talking about here in Jeremiah.

God understands what's going on in all nations on the earth at all times. You talk about all the statistics and demographics and things like this that we work up as human beings and you have these professors come on television and tell you this statistic and tell you that statistic, and so forth.

Now with global warming they don't tell you that they have 'fudged' the statistics and that it really doesn't happen. It just blows my mind! President Obama goes to Alaska just before the beginning of summer. What happens in Alaska in the spring? In the winter we know it snows lots of snow, real cold, ocean freezes over and everything. What happens in the spring and summer? It melts! So the scientists go up there and say, 'Oh, look, these icebergs are all getting broken up.' They are supposed to.

At the other end of the Pole, it's freezing over. Then when it's spring down there the ice melts. When it's summer, large chunks of frozen glaciers break off and people say, 'Look, global warming.' No! It's supposed to break off.

God looks down here, He sees everything. What did Jesus say about a sparrow? He said if a sparrow falls the Father knows it. How does He know that? But you're more valuable than sparrows because He knows every hair on your head.

Verse 7: "If at any time I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck it up and to pull it down, and to destroy it." God will do that!

The Democrats were all mad at Donald Trump because he said that we are at a turning point in the nation. He read all the crime statistics showing how many people are being killed, how many terrible crimes are going on. They said, 'That was a downer of a speech.' They have an agenda of their own, not God's! Their agenda is that only they are right.

The President gets ups and yesterday made a total fool of himself saying that this is the best time we have ever had. Are some people deluded? Remember 'IFMA,' how important it is!

Verse 8: "If that nation, against whom I have spoken, will turn from their evil…" This is not for eternal life! God deals with nations as they are in the physical sense and where they are geographically. So can there be a turning from evil in a nation? Yes! (2-Chr. 34-35). Read what King Josiah did in repenting and stopping the evil in Judah during his reign, and God blessed him. God blessed the people, so much so that God said that 'I am not going to bring this evil against Jerusalem in your day.' That's what God told King Josiah.

Remember, even the priests in the temple were so absolutely neglected that they had to dig through all of the garbage and stuff in the temple and they found the Book of the Law. Imagine that, they had gone so far from God they left the Book of the Law way in the back. They finally found it.

When it was read to King Josiah he repented, tore his clothes and wept. The priests and the Levites were so depraved at that time that Josiah said, 'Go to Huldah the prophetess and find out the Word of the Lord for me.' She told Josiah because he repented that God would delay the destruction.

God looks at people and nations according to how much they keep the laws of God, whether they know them or not. Paul wrote the Gentiles, which have not the Law—wasn't given to them—keep by nature the things that are in the Law. They are a law unto themselves. In that sense, they are keeping the Laws of God to the degree that they understand it.

  • don't murder
  • don't steal
  • don't commit adultery

All of those laws. They may not have the correct laws for worshiping God. So God says that's a law unto itself. Likewise with America or any nation.

You just look at this. Look at any nation on earth. The more of the laws of God they break, the more evil and rotten their society is and when you get to the Middle East it is absolutely the most hateful place on earth.

If you think that suicide bombings and things like that are bad in the Western society, try living in Syria or Iraq or Pakistan. They have killed more of their own than all the suicide bombers combined in the West.

When there is war and they are that evil, God will send the nations against them to put them down. 'IFMA.' The nations that are going to carry out the devastation against them change their ways. Isn't that what God says?

Verse 8: "If that nation, against whom I have spoken… [Has God spoken against us? Yes He has!] …will turn from their evil…" The Democrats are all upset because Donald Trump says he's going to be the 'law and order candidate,' because he can't stand seeing all these people killed and murdered. Is that a good thing? Yes! Is he called for conversion? No! But if he can turn back the tide of killing and slaughtering and things like that… God has put the law enforcement there to enforce the law in the society. Is that not a good thing for him to do? Yes!

I'm not saying to run out and vote for Trump. I'm just saying we need to look at things the way that God looks at them.

I see some people here from Simi Valley. Simi Valley is a very nice place over there; I like it. Those who live there like it, too. Compare that to the ghetto in the middle of Los Angeles. Those people in the ghetto have chosen to kill each other, use drugs, commit adultery and stealing. If the law enforcement cannot go in there and do that, then they are denying what God gave the law enforcement to do in every nation. Being called to salvation is another whole thing! You need to understand that.

"…will turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them. And if at any time I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build it and to plant it; if it does evil in My sight, that it not obey My voice…" (vs 8-10).

Any true good in the world comes from the Ten Commandments of God, whether they know it or not. How did we receive the Ten Commandments? God spoke them; written down!

"…then I will repent of the good with which I said I would do them good" (v10).

Harry and I went up to his place. He had to pick up his mail. We drive up this street right here, all the way up, see all the houses and buildings. You can see that with the freeways and everything we have. We have all of these wonderful neighborhoods.

I was wondering, everybody's nice to each other as long as there is peace, there's food, there's water. In L.A. you have your car. I wonder what would it would be like if Daniel was resurrected in the middle of a freeway. Everybody's going 'to and fro.' Those are some of the thoughts I think when I'm driving along.

I had to go in the supermarket and buy something. How many people here grow and store and eat only all their own food that they grow? Not a single hand! What's going to happen if we don't change and start obeying the laws of God as a nation and God has to send the correction upon us and you can't get anything from any supermarket anywhere? How long do you think people are going to be nice and kind and lovely? They are not! What's going to happen? Here it is 104 degrees out there. Think of all the water that's in the reservoirs that we're supposed to be drinking. Evaporating! Think of all the water that we use. How many people live here in the L.A. area?

Let's just take New York City—12-million people there. How much water does it take for them to drink? How much water does it take for their sewer systems to work? What if in one day that's all cut off because of their sins? Going to be maddening! Killing! Looting! Stealing! Cannibalism! The Bible talks about that.

Verse 11: "'Now, therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the people of Jerusalem, saying,' Thus says the LORD, 'Behold, I am forming evil against you, and devising a plan against you. Return now, each one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.'" That's what God says.

I think in this election, with this nation, look at Europe. Are they going to learn with 3-million, 6-million refugees from the Middle East robbing, looting, killing, raping, stealing. That's punishment from God against the people of Israel for leaving Him! We are right at the verge, right at the cusp.

The only thing I see, out of all of this, is the following: Does God think that the Church—all Churches of God everywhere—needs more time to preach the Gospel and to give a warning? There are even a lot of Protestant ministers who are giving a lot of warnings because in degree that they keep the laws of God, in degree they have understanding, though they may not be called for salvation. God is concerned about everyone.

God always brings the knowledge of understanding and correction to those who lead the people. God understands His people. We're all like sheep. You don't think that's true, just look at the fads. Everybody follows along.

Jeremiah 23:1: "'Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture,' says the LORD." Shepherds then are those who are in the civil government to lead the people.

Verse 2: "Therefore, thus says the LORD, God of Israel, against the shepherds who feed My people, 'You have scattered My flock, and have driven them away, and have not taken care of them. Behold, I will bring upon you the evil of your doings,' says the LORD."

We're seeing that happen right now. Look at all the potential evil that is coming upon us:

  • immigration
  • crime
  • drugs
  • murder
  • lying
  • cheating
  • stealing
  • thieving
  • #1 is abortion

Jeremiah says, v 9: "As for the prophets my heart within me is broken; all my bones shake. I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine has overcome because of the LORD and because of the words of His Holiness"—and His correction that is coming!

Jeremiah had a ministry of forty years. He started out when he was probably 16-18. He saw the whole nation go down and down. The revival of Josiah and then after that down and down. Even King Zedekiah, the last king just before the invasion of the Babylonians into the city, the king called for Jeremiah secretly.

He said, 'We're going to have a talk together here and don't you tell anyone what we talk about. What is the Word of the Lord?' Jeremiah said, 'The word of the Lord is that you surrender to Nebuchadnezzar and you will live and this city will not be burned. If you don't, you're going to die and this city is going to be destroyed.' Remember 'IFMA'—one man, the king.

He decided not to do it. He decided he was going to escape, so he and the princes snuck out at night and thought they would get away from the armies of King Nebuchadnezzar. But they were caught, brought them before the king. The king killed all of them except Zedekiah and then he gouged out his eyes and took him captive into Babylon. Remember 'IFMA,' all of that could have been avoided.

Yes, the kingdom would have been subject to the King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, but wouldn't that have been better than being carried off into captivity? Wouldn't that have been better than burning the city down? Yes, indeed!

Likewise for us, this nation has some choices to make. If you want all the evil to go on, with no correction at all, then you select the leader you want. Your choice! If you want it delayed for a while, then stop your crime, your drugs, your abortion, and your sinning, and God says He will give a space, but if not it's going to come.

Verse 10: "For the land is full of adulterers…"—and forced right in through your house right in the middle of your television screen.

I want you to do a survey when you are watching your television screen and you watch the ads. I've been doing this survey, so I know it's absolutely true and it does happen: Take a circle or a rectangle right in the middle of your screen. Watch these advertisements and ask yourself: How many times that the camera is focused upon the lower parts of the anatomy of the human being, men and women both? Right there! All of this goes into the mind!

"…Because of swearing the land mourns; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up…" (v 10). Burning, right over here 30 miles from us. I got up this morning to go out to my car and here were ashes from the fire.

"…and their course is evil, and they wield power unjustly…. [religious leaders and civil leaders] …'For both prophet and priest are ungodly; yea, in My house I have found their evil,' says the LORD."

What did He do with it in 70A.D.? What did Jesus say would happen to the temple because of the sins of the people? The disciples came out and they were up to the temple, they were walking up to the Mount of Olives! They said, 'Look at the buildings, look at the beautiful stones, look at all the gifts, and everything.' Jesus turned to them and said, 'See all these things here? The day is coming when there will not be one stone left upon another stone.' Did that happen? Yes, indeed! They couldn't understand that.

I don't know about you, but I read some of these prophecies and I see what's going to happen to the nation. For all of you who weren't here when the college was over in Pasadena, Harry and I drove around it Thursday. I've got a picture right on the bedroom wall, right at the top of Mayfair, looking east. Remember where the little river was. We had all the goldfish and everything in there. Wonderful setting. What was said? 'The campus is just like a little version of the Millennium.' So, we're sitting there and Robert McDonald III is the one who took all the official pictures. He took this picture and I happened to be there.

It showed the mountains in the background on a clear day, no smog; everything peaceful and nice. We drove past there and it's gone—condominiums, three stories. Hall of Administration: They scooped everything out. There is not one stone left upon another stone of the Administration building in Pasadena, California for the Worldwide Church of God because of the very sins that we are reading here! Every Word of God will be fulfilled. They've dug out everything.

Now they're pouring in a new foundation. There is going to be so much concrete there that there were four cement trucks lined up with the cement pump to pump it in. We came down a little bit from there and there's where the trucks went into the foundations so we drove up in it and looked in there. It was amazing. I looked at that and I was just dumbfounded. Gone! Remember this: What happens to the Church also happens to the country! Yes, indeed!

I think in this election that's coming up, that it's going to be a choice for the whole nation: Are you going to turn back from some of your sins? or Are you going to go headlong into destruction? That's what I see.

You've heard me say this before, but I will say it again. When I resigned, in my resignation sermon God inspired me to say that unless there's someone standing in the pulpit in Pasadena today (paraphrased) telling the people to amend their ways, that's what God says, to amend our ways, that the forces will be unleashed which will tear the Church asunder! I was so hated and despised for saying that, but it has happened. It's taken many years, but it is true, beyond the wildest thoughts of any of us.

Isaiah 1:2, God says: "Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth…" What people do on the earth affects everything! God has a plan for the heavens, for the earth, for all that there is. God doesn't like to bring the evil, but He will bring it because His Word is true and His judgment is correct. Unless there's repentance it is going to come.

God even said of Israel, 'Even though they repented with flatteries to Me, I forgave them.' I look at that and I think:

  • Is God going to give us more time as a nation?
  • What is it going to be?

Remember the Scripture that says, 'Woe to you who desire the Day of the Lord? It's a day of darkness and gloominess and death and destruction.'

So here's how God looks at it. "'…I have reared and brought up children, but they have rebelled against Me'" (v 2). This whole nation is a rebellion against God!

However, for those who love God and keep His commandments, and are those who are called of Him, He will spare everything IF we do what we need to. He will spare it for a time!

IF the people choose to be law-abiding and IF they choose to get off their drugs—Individually or collectively—and IF they choose to stop the abortions, as much as possible, and IF they choose to quit their lying, cheating and stealing, then God will give us more time! If not, who knows? God does!

He says, this is so bad, this rebellion against Me, it's worse than an animal, v 3: "'The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib; but Israel does not know Me; My people do not understand.' Ah, sinful nation, a people burdened with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children who deal corruptly!…." (vs 3-4). Hillary is the 'queen of corruption.' If you think that's bad, think of what goes on that we don't even know.

That's why God has called us, because He is going to bring the first resurrection. We will come back to this earth, and we will straighten out the mess. Believe me, it will be a giant mess, the whole earth, all people.

"…They have forsaken the LORD; they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger; they have gone away backward. Why should you be stricken any more? You will revolt more and more; the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even to the top of the head there is no soundness in it; only wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; they have not been closed, nor bound up, nor soothed with ointment. Your country is a desolation… [coming to it very quickly] …your cities are burned with fire. Strangers devour your land right in your very presence, and it is wasted, as overthrown by strangers" (vs 4-7).

Verse 9: "Except the LORD of hosts had left us a very small remnant… [the Church] … we would have been as Sodom; we would have become like Gomorrah."

Isaiah 3:10: "Say to the righteous that it shall be well with him; for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.… [by what we do. Remember 'IFMA'] …Woe to the wicked! For the evil doing of his hand will be given to him" (vs 10-11).

I want you to do a little study through the book of Judges. Were these judges really, really righteous? I think you'll find out they had a great many faults and difficulties, but at least they were willing to fight against the enemy and to turn the children of Israel back to God. Never did it completely. You read through each one of them.

There are some people saying, 'I'll never vote for Donald Trump because he's married and divorced.' I'm not saying for you to vote for Donald Trump. Some of the judges of Israel had multiple wives, did they not? Did God use them? Yes!

When you look at the nation and what needs to be done, it's a little bit different standard than what's required of the Church. For us:

  • we're to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and being
  • we're to grow in grace and knowledge
  • we're to develop and build the character

The greatest thing that is needed is the Kingdom of God coming to this earth. No government, no leader on earth is going to stop what is coming. At best, it only can be delayed. That will only be for the purpose of preaching the Gospel. God wants to save the world and He has chosen us to assist Him in doing that. Think of that!

You look out and you see all of these things, all these troubles, all these wars, all this stuff, all the destruction, the upset weather, the drought, the rain, the flood, all of this. In God's time He's going to save the world. It's going to be for all of those in the first resurrection to be kings and priests.

  • some of you are going to rule over cities
  • some of you are going to have administrative jobs
  • some are going to be priests
  • some are going to be kings

I'll leave you with this. I couldn't help but thinking of this when after the final speech of Donald Trump and the whole group of everyone there in the auditorium, thousands that were there, they were cheering, happy, the confetti was falling, the balloons were falling, the band was playing. Everyone was excited and jumping up and down for joy.

What will it be like when all the saints are resurrected on the Sea of Glass and we have our convention with God the Father, Jesus Christ, all the apostles, all that are in the first resurrection? And we have four months on the Sea of Glass to prepare to come and take over the world to save it! Think of the joy that will be there.

Can you imagine the joy that all of this is going to be? Think of the huge army of those whom God has safely stored away in the grave and whose spirit is stored right by His altar in heaven above. Isn't that what Paul said? 'We come to Mt. Sion in heaven above,' the spirit of the perfected saints.

Now we're all resurrected with a spirit body, spirit mind. First thing we're going to see is an angel, because they're going to take us up to the Sea of Glass. When we're on the Sea of Glass, here's the finale of it. This is right at the end of everything that takes place on the Sea of Glass. You think of the joy, you think of everything that is going to happen on that Sea of Glass.

I couldn't help but think of it when I saw everybody all excited, dancing around, joyful, cheerful and everything. I thought,

  • What's it going to be like on the Sea of Glass?
  • What's it going to be like with all the resurrected saints?
  • What's it going to be like to see God the Father and Jesus Christ?

Here it is right here:

Revelation 19:1: "And after these things I heard the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven… [the first heaven. That's where the Sea of Glass is going to be] …saying, 'Hallelujah!….'" I think you could expand that out to many songs and things like that.

"'…The salvation and the glory and the honor and the power belong to the Lord our God. For true and righteous are His judgments; for He hasjudged the great whore, who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and He has avenged the blood of His servants at her hand.' And they said a second time, 'Hallelujah!....'" (vs 1-3). That means praise God. This is going to be so fantastic!

Verse 4: "And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, Who sits on the throne, saying, 'Amen. Hallelujah!' And a voice came forth from the throne, saying… [this is God speaking, Christ speaking] …'Praise our God, all His servants, and all who fear Him, both small and great.' And I heard a voice like that of a great multitude, and like the sound of many waters, and the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, 'Hallelujah! For the Lord God Almighty has reigned" (vs 4-6).

That's what God has called us to do, brethren! That's why we're here! That's why we go through what we do!

As you look out and see this nation we can hope for the best. Ask God to help us, that many people will turn back and do things they need to do. We don't wish them ill, but God is the judge.
